HODGES RAPS OUT FOUR HITS, DRIVES IN FOUR, DODGERS CRUISE TO EASY WIN

Gil Hodges rapped out his first four hits of the Series, including a three-run homerun, and Johnny Podres shut out the Yankees into the eighth inning, pacing the Dodgers to an easy 10-3 drubbing over the Yankees.

The Dodgers managed their first win of the series thanks in large part to three things.  Hodges was tops on that list with his four-hit day that drove in four runs, and reminded the Yankees of how dangerous he can be, and was in last season’s World Series (3 HR, 12 RBI in 5 G).  Then Johnny Podres did what no other starter had done yet, stifle the Yankee offense after given a lead.  Podres allowed only one runner to reach scoring position through the first seven innings before the Yankees finally got to him for a pair of runs in the eighth when the game was already out of reach.  Lastly, there was the subtle change in the lineup, Don Hoak replaced the hitless Jackie Robinson at third base, and responded with an RBI-double that brought home the Dodgers’ first run, a lead the team would not relinquish this time around.

The Dodgers had themselves a win, the backing of their home crowd, and a reason to look forward in Game Four.
