BREWERS BELT 5 HRS IN ‘W’ OVER GIANTS

Ramirez Homers Twice; 7th in Last 20 Games

MILWAUKEE, Aug. 6 (AP) – Aramis Ramirez belted two of his team’s five home runs as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the San Francisco Giants 12-7 at Miller Park.  Ramirez, who went homerless over his first 68 games of the season, breaking the drought on July 11, has now homered seven times in the 20 contests.  The five long balls hit by the Brewers represent the high mark for the club in a single game thus far this season.

Milwaukee roared out to a seemingly impregnable seven-run lead in the first two innings, knocking out Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong in the process.  Carlos Gomez led off the bottom of the first with a double and, one out later, Ryan Braun’s two-bagger made it 1-0.  After Ramirez grounded to third, Jonathan Lucroy drew a walk from Vogelsong and Scooter Gennett belted a three-run shot into the visitors bullpen in right field for a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Carlos Gomez’s solo home run with one out made it 5-0.  Gerardo Parra singled and stole second, then advanced to third on Braun’s deep fly to center.  Ramirez followed by crushing a Vogelsong fastball into the lower seats in left to make it 7-0.

The Giants picked up a couple of runs in the third, the first when Pablo Sandoval singled home Hunter Pence and the second when Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Buster Posey to score.

It was still 7-2 in the fourth inning when Ramirez clobbered his second home run of the game, a blast that landed well beyond the wall in dead center field, to increase the lead to six runs.

And in the bottom of the fifth, Gallardo helped himself, by driving a two-run double into the right-center field gap, giving Milwaukee a commanding 10-2 lead.

But the Giants didn’t quit and erupted for five runs in the top of the sixth.  Michael Morse led off the frame with a base hit and advanced to second on another Gallardo wild pitch.  Seemingly flustered, Gallardo walked Gregor Blanco on four pitches and was removed from the game in favor of Marco Estrada.  Brandon Crawford greeted Estrada with a double to right-center, scoring Morse and advancing Blanco to third.  One out later, Pence dropped a single into left, scoring Blanco and moving Crawford to third.  Joe Panik then belted a home run, just inside the right field foul pole, pulling San Francisco to within three runs.

It was as close as the Giants would get as the Brewers finally put the game to bed with two runs in the seventh.  Gennett led off with a double and advanced to third on Martin Maldonado’s ground out.  Jean Segura popped out but Ricky Weeks drove a 3-2 offering from Javier Lopez into the left field seats to cap the scoring with Milwaukee on top 12-7.
