RUIZ’S BASES LOADED 2B FUELS PHILS COMEBACK WALK-OFF

Prado's Miscue Opens Door

PHILADELPHIA, July 25 (AP) - Carlos Ruiz's two-out bases loaded double cleared the sacks and gave the Philadelphia Phillies a 4-3 walk-off win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park.  The victory--the third in the row for the Phillies--was the first time the team had rallied from a ninth-inning deficit to triumph this season.  The three-game winning streak is the longest for Philadelphia since a four-game streak that ran from May 7-10.

The Phillies drew first blood with a run off Diamondbacks starter Wade Miley in the bottom of the second on Darin Ruf's solo homer, his first long ball of the season.  Arizona took the lead in the third.  Miley led off with a base hit off Philadelphia starter Kyle Kendrick and advanced to second when third baseman Cody Asche botched David Peralta's would-be double play grounder.  The error put runners on first and second and they advanced to second and third when Kendrick uncorked a wild pitch.  Aaron Hill's ground out plated Miley and Paul Goldschmidt's major league leading 46th double of the season brought Peralta home to give Arizona a 2-1 advantage.

Kendrick held the Diamondbacks hitless after Goldschmidt's third inning double until he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the bottom of the sixth. The Phillies had a chance to at least tie the game in the fifth.  Grady Sizemore singled to left with one out and consecutive free passes to Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley filled the bases.  But Marlon Byrd grounded to Martin Prado at third who threw home for the force on Sizemore.  The relay from catcher Miguel Montero was in time to double up Byrd and the 2-1 Arizona lead remained intact.

The Diamondbacks added an insurance run off reliever Antonio Bastardo in the seventh when Gerardo Parra drew a lead-off walk, stole second one out later, and scored on pinch hitter Alfredo Marte's double.

Oliver Perez tossed a perfect bottom of the seventh for Arizona and Evan Marshall pitched around a couple of baserunners to keep the Phillies off the board in the eighth.  Diamondbacks closer Addison Reed took over in the ninth, in search of his 26th save of the season.  Pinch hitter Ben Revere bounced to first for the first out of the inning but Sizemore walked.  Rollins then grounded to Prado at third who booted the ball.  The error brought the tying run to the plate with one out.  Utley then walked on a 3-2 pitch to load the bases.  Byrd then flied to shallow right, with the runners holding.  That brought Ruiz to the plate.  Reed worked ahead in the count 1-2 but missed his spot with the ensuing slider.  Ruiz roped the ball into the gap in right-center field, scoring Sizemore and Rollins easily to tie the score.  Utley was able to narrowly beat the relay from Hill to win the game for the Phillies.
