BOSOX GO BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK IN ROUT OF YANKS

Lackey Fires CG; Big Papi Pounds 2 of 5 Boston HRs

NEW YORK, June 29 (AP) - David Ortiz, Mike Napoli and A.J. Pierzynski hit consecutive home runs in the third inning as the Boston Red Sox routed the New York Yankees 10-3 at Yankee Stadium.  It was only the second time this season that a team hit back-to-back-to-back home runs; the Chicago White Sox accomplished the feat in an 8-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 10.  The Ortiz long ball was the second of the game for the Boston designated hitter; he hit a three-run shot in the first inning.  It was the first mulit-homer game of the year for Ortiz  The Red Sox hit five home runs all told in the contest, easily besting the previous season high of three for the club.  All three of New York's runs came courtesy of Mark Teixiera, who also homered twice, the first time this season that the Yankees first baseman has hit more than a single home run in a game.

Four of the five Boston home runs came off Yankees starter Chase Whitley.  Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts, making his major league debut, hit his first career home run, a solo shot off New York reliever David Huff in the fifth.

The 17 hits amassed by Boston set a new season-high to date, surpassing the previous 2014 club record of 16 set on April 4 in an 11-0 pounding of the Milwaukee Brewers at Fenway Park.

Red Sox starter John Lackey tossed his first complete game of the year, winning for the third time in his last four starts as he continues to recover from a brutal start to the season that saw him fall to 2-9 just three weeks ago.  In his last five starts Lackey is 3-2 with a 2.65 ERA.
