GILLESPIE HITS FOR CYCLE IN CHISOX WIN

Ramirez, Viciedo Also Homer for Chicago

LOS ANGELES, June 3 (AP) - Connor Gillespie became the second big league player this season to hit for the cycle, leading the Chicago White Sox past the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 at Dodger Stadium.  Gillespie's RBI double in the eighth completed the circuit, which was accomplished in the minimum four plate appearances.  Gillespie also scored twice and drove in three runs.

The Dodgers scored first in the bottom of the opening frame when Andre Ethier tripled off White Sox starter Hector Noesi and scored on Yasiel Puig's sacrifice fly.

Alexei Ramirez's seventh home run of the season, a solo shot, in the top of the second tied the game.  Gillespie followed with a triple off the wall in right-center that caromed past Ethier, but was stranded when Dan Haren retired the next three batters.

Los Angeles got the run back in the bottom of the second when Matt Kemp drew a one-out walk and scored on Chone Figgins' double.

But Chicago took the lead for good in the fourth in what initially appeared to be a quiet inning.  Haren retired the first two batters without incident but Gillespie singled and Dayan Viciedo launched a drive that landed in the bullpen in left field, giving the White Sox a 3-2 advantage.

Jose Abreu led off the top of the sixth with a base hit and, one out later, Ramirez forced him at second.  But Gillespie salvaged the inning with a long two-run homer that reached the pavilion in right field, making the score 5-2.

Hanley Ramirez's one-out solo shot in the bottom of the inning cut the lead to 5-3 but the White Sox got the run back in the top of the eighth, courtesy of Gillespie and some bad defense.  Reliever Brandon League retired Gordon Beckham on strikes to open the inning but Abreu reached when League couldn't handle a comebacker.  Adam Dunn drew a walk to put runners on first and second and Ramirez flied to the edge of the warning track in left-center, with Abreu tagging and advancing to third.  Lefty J.P. Howell came on to face Gillespie but the Chicago third baseman foiled the strategy by lashing a double to right-center, scoring Abreu and chasing Dunn to third.  Viciedo grounded out to end the inning but the White Sox now led 6-3.

Adrian Gonzalez's double in the bottom of the inning off Jake Petricka scored Hanley Ramirez with an unearned run to cut the lead to 6-4, but that was as close as the Dodgers came despite threatening in the ninth.  Ronald Belisario gave up a one-out walk to Dee Gordon which was followed by a single to Ethier, bringing the winning run to the plate, but he fanned Puig and got Ramirez on a grounder to second, ending the game and securing his third save of the season.

Gillespie is the first American Leaguer to hit for the cycle this season.  Charlie Blackmon of the Colorado Rockies is the only other player in the majors to accomplish the feat this season, doing so in a win over the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field on May 22.
