BUMBARNER BEATS ROCKS WITH BAT & ARM
Belts Slam, Wins 7th

DENVER, May 20 (AP) - Madison Bumbgarner belted a grand slam and drove in five runs while winning his seventh game of the season, leading the San Francisco Giants to a 9-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.  The grand slam came in the top of the second and is the 18th of the major league season, but is the first off the bat of the bat of a pitcher.  Bumgarner later doubled in a run to account for the five RBIs.  On the mound he held the Rockies to two runs in six innings while striking out seven, extending his personal winning streak to six consecutive decisions.

The Giants seized control of the game in the second, culminating with Bumgarner's long ball.  Colorado starter Franklin Morales hit Michael Morse with a pitch to open the frame, but Hector Sanchez and Brandon Hicks were retired, leaving Morse on first with two outs.  Brandon Crawford rolled a single up the middle, with Morse stopping at second and Tyler Colvin drew a walk, filling the bases.  Bumgarner worked the count to 3-1, forcing Morales to throw a fastball and Bumgarner drove it into the left field bleachers to give San Francisco a 4-0 lead.

The Rockies got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Nolan Arenado tripled into the right field corner and scored on Wilin Rosario's base hit but the Giants' upped their lead again in the top of the third.  Hunter Pence led off with a single and Pablo Sandoval doubled him home.  Morse flied to right with Sandoval advancing to third and Sanchez lifted a sacrifice fly to center, giving the Giants a 6-1 advantage.

San Francisco blew the game open for good in the fifth, again doing all of their damage with two outs.  Sanchez singled and, after Hicks fanned for the second out, Crawford tripled to the gap in right-center, scoring Sanchez.  Colvin singled to right, scoring Crawford and Bumgarner ripped his second extra base hit of the game, doubling to left, scoring Colvin to give the Giants a 9-1 lead.

The Rockies scored a run in the sixth when Michael Cuddyer led off with a double and scored one out later on Carlos Gonzalez's single.  They added a consolation tally in the eighth off reliever Jean Machi when Rosario doubled home Troy Tulowitzki, who had walked.
