PUIG'S WALK-OFF GIVES DODGERS 1-0 'W'
De La Rosa Takes No-Hitter Into 8th

LOS ANGELES, Apr. 27 (AP) - Yasiel Puig led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run on the second pitch he saw from Adam Ottavino to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium.  The home run was only the second hit of the game for the Dodgers, who surrendered only three safeties to the Rockies.  The five total hits is the lowest combined total in a game this year.  The Dodgers are now the only team to win a game while securing fewer than three hits in a contest.

Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, becoming just the second pitcher this season to accomplish the feat.  De La Rosa's teammate, Franklin Morales, turned the trick on April 17 at Petco Park in San Diego, but lost his bid for immortality by surrendering a double to Tommy Medica leading off the eighth.  In a bit of deja vu, De La Rosa yielded a double to Justin Turner of the Dodgers, also leading off the eighth.  But unlike Morales, who picked up the win against the Padres, De La Rosa had to accept a no-decision.

Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu was just as effective as De La Rosa, but also got a no-decision for his troubles.  Ryu allowed a one-out single to Justin Morneau in the second, but escaped any damage.  Far more threatening was the top of the fourth--the best scoring opportunity either team had before Puig's game-winner in the ninth.  Brandon Barnes and Carlos Gonzalez swatted back-to-back base hits to open the frame, putting runners on first and third with no outs.  But Ryu induced Troy Tulowitzki to tap back to the mound; Ryu held Barnes at third and still had time to get a force on Gonzales at second, leaving runners on the corners but with one out.  Morneau then grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to allow Ryu to wiggle out of trouble.  The only other baserunner Ryu allowed before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the eighth was Nolan Arenado who drew a walk to lead off the sixth but was stranded.  Over all, 17 of the final 18 Rockies who came to the plate in the game were retired.

Despite the nearly non-existent hit total, the Dodgers actually had a couple of scoring opportunities due to De La Rosa's control issues.  In the bottom of the first, Puig drew a one-out walk, stole second base and advanced to third on Matt Kemp's fly ball to right.  Adrian Gonzalez walked, putting runners on first and third, but Juan Uribe grounded out to end the inning.  In the fifth, Scott Van Slyke drew a lead-off free pass, stole second and took third when Turner flied to center, but Tim Federowicz grounded out to a drawn-in infield with Turner holding at third, and Ryu rolled out to second to end the threat.

After Turner broke up the no-hitter to lead off the bottom of the eighth, Hanley Ramirez pinch hit for Federowicz but flied to left.  Carl Crawford batted for Ryu and fanned and Dee Gordon grounded out to end the inning with the game still scoreless.  Jamey Wright came on for the Dodgers in the ninth and easily retired the Rockies in order.

Ottavino replaced De La Rosa on the mound in the bottom of the ninth, meaning that both starters had worked eight scoreless innings, allowing a combined four hits, but both would get no-decisions.  Ottavino worked ahead 0-1 with a fastball, then came with a change-up, which he left up in the strike zone.  Puig didn't miss it driving it over the wall in straight away left to give the Dodgers their eighth win in 14 one-run games.
