TULO'S 2-HR, 7-RBI EFFORT PROPELS ROCKS' ROUT
Colorado scores 13 of 15 Runs with 2 Outs

DENVER, Apr. 23 (AP) - Troy Tulowitzki homered twice and drove in seven runs as the Colorado Rockies pummeled the San Francisco Giants 15-2 at Coors Field.  Tulowitzki also tripled and singled, accounting for 12 total bases, tying Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutcheon's April 8 effort against the Cubs at Wrigley Field for the to-date season high in that category.  The seven RBIs also ties a big league high for the year, first set by Oswaldo Arcia of the Twins against the White Sox on April 2 at U.S. Cellular Field.  Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the game was the fact that the Rockies scored 13 of their 15 runs with two outs.

The Giants actually scored first in this game, when Gregor Blanco led off the contest with a walk and trotted home on Hunter Pence's home run into the left field bleachers off Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood.  The lead would be short-lived.

Colorado tied the game in the bottom of the first when Nolan Arenado drew a one-out walk from San Francisco starter Matt Cain and scored on the first of Tulowitzki's home runs.

The Rockies quickly blew the game wide open, with a four-run, two-out rally in the bottom of the second.  Cain easily retired Brandon Barnes and D.J. LeMahieu but struggled mightily to record the inning's third out.  Chatwood singled and took second on a wild pitch, then advanced to third on Charlie Blackmon's single to center.  Arenado followed with a double to the gap in left-center, scoring both runners, and Tulowitzki capped the inning with his second home run of the game, giving Colorado a 6-2 lead.

If there was any question about the outcome the Rockies put it to rest in the third, driving Cain from the game in the process.  For the second time in as many innings, the Rockies did all of their damage with two outs.  Corey Dickerson singled with one out and took second on Barnes' ground out.  LeMahieu followed with a triple off the wall in right-center, scoring Dickerson to make it 7-2.  Chatwood then applied the coup de grace with a home run, giving Colorado a 9-2 lead and ending Cain's day.

The game was effectively over but the scoring wasn't.  The Rockies added a run in the fourth on consecutive two-out doubles by Justin Morneau and Willin Rosario.  In the fifth, LeMahieu singled with one out and advanced to second one out later when Blackmon walked.  Arenado then cracked his second two-bagger of the contest, scoring both runners, and then came home himself on Tulowitzki's single to right.  Colorado capped the scoring in the seventh when pinch hitter Charlie Culberson singled with one out, took third out later on Arenado's base hit and both runners scored when Tulowitzki tripled to left-center.

In all, 10 of the 17 Rockies hits went for extra bases.

Chatwood scuffled a bit with his control, walking four, but gave his team six effective innings, allowing only the two first inning runs and striking out nine.  Boone Logan and Matt Belisle combined to toss three innings of shutout relief.

The loss snapped a four-game Giants winning streak and the Rockies got some revenge for the 10-1 pasting they absorbed at the hands of San Francisco the day before.
