BIG UNIT DOES IT ALL IN 'W' OVER BREWERS
Shutout, 13 Ks, HR for Johnson

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 19 (AP) - It's been a difficult season for Randy Johnson, but the Arizona left-hander released some frustration with a dominating performance in a 2-0 Diamondbacks victory over the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.  Johnson fired a three-hit complete game shutout, striking out 13 in the process, and helped his own cause when his solo home run in the top of the sixth off Doug Davis inning broke a scoreless tie.

Johnson missed nearly half the season due to injury and has performed sporadically when healthy, but the win over the Brewers represents his third quality start in as many outings and the 13 strikeouts are a personal season's best.  The complete game was Johnson's second of the year, and the ninth overall for the Diamondbacks staff, tying the Montreal Expos for the National League lead in that category.

Johnson's home run led off the sixth and landed in the bleachers in left-center field.  Shea Hillenbrand capped the scoring with a two-out solo home run to straight away left field with two outs in the top of the ninth.

Johnson held the Brewers completely at bay, never allowing a baserunner beyond second base.  Milwaukee's best chance appeared to be in the fourth when Scott Podsednik doubled to left-center to open the frame.  But Johnson fanned Keith Ginter, retired Brady Clark on a pop fly to first and induced Richie Sexson to ground out to second to extinguish the threat.  Eddie Perez led off the eighth inning with a single but the next three batters were set down in order to end the inning.

Davis tossed his first complete game of the season in a losing effort.  It was the first time in a National League game this season that both pitchers have thrown complete games.
