HALLADAY STYMIES TIGERS AS JAYS WIN 7TH STRAIGHT
10th CG of Year; Detroit 'L' Streak at 10

DETROIT, Sept. 17 (AP) - Roy Halladay stifled the Tigers on three hits, firing his major league best 10th complete game of the season as the Toronto Blue Jays eked past Detroit, 1-0 at Comerica Park.  The shutout is Halladay's third this year, tops in the American League and tied for the major league lead with Jason Schmidt of the San Francisco Giants.  The victory is the seventh straight for Toronto, the longest winning streak of the year for the Blue Jays who now stand a season's best nine games over .500.  The Tigers fell for the tenth straight time--the third occasion this year that Detroit has lost at least 10 consecutive games.  The Tigers have now dropped a major league worst 107 contest with 11 games still to play.

Halladay, who has won 14 of his last 19 decisions dating back to early June, simply overpowered the Tigers who never moved a baserunner past second base and never had two runners on base in the same inning during the entire game.  The Toronto right-hander closed with a flourish, retiring the final 11 batters he faced, en route to securing his 19th victory of the season.

The Blue Jays scored the game's only run in the third inning.  Orlando Hudson led off with a double to right-center off Tigers starter Shane Loux.  Kevin Cash sacrificed Hudson to third base and Frank Catalanotto's sacrifice fly to right brought Hudson home.

Halladay is expected to have two chances to obtain a coveted 20th victory of the season.  Only Tim Hudson (24) and Barry Zito (22), both of the Oakland A's, have reached the 20-win plateau in the American League thus far though Mike Mussina (19) and Roger Clemens (18), both of the New York Yankees, are also within striking distance.
