RANGERS SNAP 13-GAME LOSING STREAK
Thomson Tosses 7 Scoreless in 'W' Over Mets

ARLINGTON, Tex., June 10 (AP) - John Thomson fired seven shutout innings and the Texas Rangers scored just enough to end a 13-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the New York Mets at the Ballpark in Arlington.

The Rangers scored all of their runs against Mets starter Steve Trachsel in the third and fourth innings.  Einar Diaz broke a scoreless tie with a one-out solo home run in the third, which was followed immediately by Doug Glanville's single to center field.  One out later, Hank Blalock lashed a double to the right-center field gap, scoring Glanville all the way from first base without a throw, giving Texas a 2-0 advantage.

Rafael Palmeiro led off the bottom of the fourth with his 13th home run of the season which landed in the third row of the lower right field grandstand, just inside the foul pole.

The Mets were held off the scoreboard until the eighth, when Francisco Cordero replaced Thomson on the mound for the Rangers.  Roberto Alomar led off the inning with a base hit and Cliff Floyd followed with a base on balls, bringing the potential tying run to the plate.  But Jeromy Burnitz bounced into an around the horn double play, leaving Alomar at third base with two outs.  Ty Wigginton came through with a run-scoring single to right field, breaking the shutout and J.R. Phillips chased Wigginton to third with a single to right of his own.  Pinch hitter Tony Clark struck out to end the inning, however, with New York still trailing, 3-1.

Ugeuth Urbina came on in the ninth for the Rangers and set down the Mets in order to preserve the victory.
