CHAPMAN'S 6 HITS, RBIS KEY YANKS DESTRUCTION OF CHISOX
Sox Drop 15th Straight Game

CHICAGO, Sept. 6 (AP) - Ben Chapman became the first player in the major leagues this season to amass six hits in a game as the New York Yankees obliterated the Chciago White Sox 25-3 at Comiskey Park.  Eight members of the Yankees starting lineup, including pitcher Red Ruffing, had multi-hit games.  Only catcher Art Jorgens, who finished 0-for-6, failed to reach base safely for New York.  The 25 runs recorded by the Yankees is the top mark in the American League this season and the second highest total for any major league club.  The Boston Braves scored 26 runs in a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Aug. 29 to pace all big league teams.  The 26 hits also sets a new AL high for the year.  In addition to the six hits--which included his seventh home run of the season--Chapman scored five runs and drove in six.  It was the second time this season that Chapman scored five runs in a game.  No player has scored more than five runs in a single contest this year.  Lou Gehrig scored four runs and drove in five.  Frank Crosetti scored four runs and drove in four and George Selkirk had five hits and drove in five runs.

The game was effectively over not long after it started.  The Yankees scored six runs in the second inning, with Crosetti's bases clearing triple the big blow.  They sent 12 men to the plate and tallied seven more runs in the fourth, chasing White Sox starter Ted Lyons in the process.  Chicago player-manager Jimmy Dykes, in an attempt to avoid blowing through his bullpen, used only three pitchers in the game, despite the fact that the entire trio was blasted throughout.  Reliever Joe Heving was pounded to the tune of 11 runs allowed on 15 hits in just 3 1/3 innings.  Harry Kinzy was the most effective White Sox hurler, but he still allowed three runs in two innings.

The White Sox nicked New York starter Ruffing for three runs in the fourth but the right-hander was otherwise extremely effective and shut Chicago out for the remaining eight innings.  The Yankees finished with 11 extra base hits, three of them home runs, all off Heving, with Crosetti, Chapman and Ruffing doing the honors.  Heving added to his own woes by allowing seven of the first eight batters he faced to reach safely.

As the hits and runs piled up, the specifics seemed almost inconsequential, though the Yankees did produce six multi-run innings.

When the dust settled, the White Sox had dropped their major league worst 15th consecutive loss.  No other AL team has lost more than 10 straight.

The win was the tenth win in 11 games  for the Yankees who moved 1/2 game ahead of the Detroit Tigers atop the American League.
