GEHRIG'S 6 RBIs KEY YANKS ROUT
ChiSox Gaston Falls for 21st Time

NEW YORK, Aug. 27 (AP) - Major league RBI leader Lou Gehrig drove in a season-high six runs to lead the New York Yankees past the Chicago White Sox 15-7 at Yankee Stadium.  It was the tenth straight loss for the White Sox, exceeding their previous worst such streak of nine and equaling the longest losing streak in the American League this year.  Both the Philadelphia Athletics and Washington Senators have lost 10 games in a row this season.

The two clubs combined to walk 19 batters, tied for the most in a nine-inning big league game this year.  The A's and Boston Red Sox combined to walk 19 in a contest at Fenway Park on July 8.

Chicago starter Milt Gaston surrendered nine runs (six earned) in just 3 1/3 innings of work and saw his record fall to 3-21.  The 21 losses are easily the highest total for a pitcher in either league.

The Yankees jumped on Gaston for three runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Frankie Crosetti led off with a double and scored on Jack Saltzgaver's two-bagger.  Saltzgaver then came home on Ben Chapman's sixth home run of the season.

The White Sox got a run back in the third when Mule Haas walked and scored two batters later when Saltgaver committed an error on Luke Appling's grounder.

But New York tallied three more times in the home half of the third.  Chapman drew a one-out walk and moved to second when Jackie Hayes booted Gehrig's tailor-made double play ball.  Tony Lazzeri then singled to fill the bases.  George Selkirk's grounder led to a force of Chapman at home to give Gaston a brief reprieve, but Myril Hoag's walk forced in a run and Art Jorgens' base hit plated two more to give the Yankees a 6-1 advantage.

Hank Madjeski's two-run homer off Jimmy DeShong in the top of the fourth briefly made it a game again, cutting the deficit to 6-3, but the Yankees broke the game open once and for all in the bottom of the inning.  Crosetti and Saltzgaver opened the frame by drawing back-to-back walks from Gaston.  Chapman's roller to the mound resulted in the first out but advanced the baserunners to second and third.  Gehrig's base hit plated both runners, upping the lead to 8-3, and ended the day for Gaston.  He was replaced by Joe Heving who struck out Lazzeri for the second out but then yielded a two-run homer to George Selkirk to give New York a 10-3 lead.

The game was never really competitive again.  Gehrig hit his major league leading 42nd home run of the season, a three-run shot, in the sixth off Heving to make the score 13-3 and then he and Selkirk each drove in a run in the seventh to put the Yankees on top 15-3.

Chicago tallied a total of five consolation runs over the final two innings off reliever Russ Van Atta, but it was far too little too late.

With the loss the White Sox have now dropped 20 of their last 24 games.
